African Kings of Comedy
Enigmablast at opportunities will review Events that were. Here, ‘African Kings of Comedy’ is reviewed.
The event took place almost a month ago on May 26, 2012. Put together by ace comedian, Bright Okpocha ‘aka Basketmouth’ it aimed to up the ante in event hosting. You will first notice this by the class of ticketing which included a N1M table. That was brave!
The event itself kicked off at about 7.30pm – in a good attempt to maintain the advertised time even though most of the audience of the night were still probably in their houses or on the road. I have always been a proponent of strict timing so that we can sooner or later imbibe that culture of starting event at the right time.
The young and new on the block acts started the event with timing. Some utilized their time to great effect that it seemed they were bundled out while they still had much to offer while some just couldn’t hit the cord.
Then came the old brigade. A few threw caution to the wind and rendered some raw jokes. Methinks it did not go down well with some people. Were they given a rule?
The event itself went down to 2am in the morning. Six hours of non-stop show could be a little too much but if the audience are at their toes, the long duration counts for nothing. But it is for the audience.[flagallery gid=1 name=Gallery]
Overall, it was a commendable effort. Bringing acts from other countries is not an easy job. According to a popular Nigerian blogger, ‘I have to say the event rocked. The foreign comedians, Basketmouth, Bovi, Okey Bakassi, I Go Die and several other comedians brought the house down. Tuface, MI, Davido, Darey Art Alade, Wizkid, Timi Dakolo, Tiwa Savage, Ara, Saucekid, Black Magic, Iyanya, all gave outstanding performances’. The venue and stage was immaculate and nicely setup.
The only question is whether all of them are all African Kings of Comedy.
Congrats Basketmouth.
